Note: Hawaii sets probate filing fees by STATUTE for the whole State, so no circuit or county publishes its own schedule. $215 is collected at filing to open a probate: the $100 fee of HRS § 607-5(b)(14) for 'Probate, administration, domiciliary foreign personal representative, or ancillary administration', paid 'once only for each decedent's estate'; the $50 administrative fee of § 607-5(c)(32); and the $65 indigent legal services surcharge of § 607-5.7. The Judiciary's List of Civil Filing Fees (updated 6/17/2022) prints all three under Probate: Application/Petition $100.00, Admin Fee $50.00, Indigent Surcharge $65.00, plus Affidavit $3.00, Demand for Notice $3.00, Demand for Jury Trial $200.00 and Will Deposit $0.00. The same $215 applies whether the estate is opened informally or formally. Do not quote the § 607-5(b)(1) civil-action fee of $200 or the $315 civil-complaint total as a probate fee; both belong to ordinary civil suits. The Judiciary's older 'Circuit Court Filing Fees and Costs' sheet (effective January 1, 2014) prints no probate amount and refers filers to each circuit's estate desk, so it is not used here.
