Formal Administration Standard probate for larger estates | $50 |
Note: Kentucky sets probate court costs statewide by Supreme Court rule, so they are the same in every county and are NOT graduated by estate value: opening a probate case (a decedent's estate) in District Court costs a flat $50.00 probate filing fee (CR 3.03(1)(c) under Supreme Court of Kentucky Order 2026-15, effective July 1, 2026). A $20.00 court technology fee (KRS 27A.630; CR 3.03(1)(m)) and any small county library or court-facility add-on (KRS 172.180; KRS 453.060) are added to civil filings, and a $20 sheriff service-of-process fee applies only if process is requested (KRS 24A.170), so the practical total to file is roughly $70 plus small county add-ons. Kentucky imposes no probate tax on the value of the estate. Recording the probated will with the Metcalfe County Clerk is a separate flat $33 fee (KRS 64.012, effective July 15, 2026). Amounts per the Supreme Court order and KRS 24A.170; confirm the current District Court cost with the Metcalfe Circuit Court Clerk before filing.
