Note: Utah sets court fees statewide by Utah Code 78A-2-301 and there is no per-county probate filing fee and no probate tax. A petition to open a decedent's estate is a civil petition invoking the jurisdiction of a court of record that no other subsection governs, so it takes the 78A-2-301(1)(a) fee of $375.00. The Utah Courts published schedule Filing Fees - Effective May 6, 2026 lists the same $375.00 for an original complaint or petition not otherwise governed, $35.00 for filing a probate or custody document of another state under (1)(m), $4.00 per certified document plus $0.50 per page under (1)(z), and $6.00 per exemplified document plus $0.50 per page under (1)(aa). The graduated ladder in 78A-2-301(1)(r) is introduced by the words "The fee for filing any accounting required by law is" and runs $15.00, $30.00, $50.00, $90.00 and $175.00 by estate value. That ladder is the fee to file an ACCOUNTING, which arises in supervised administration and in conservatorships, and it is not the fee to open probate. Both small-estate routes cost nothing: the 75-3-1201 affidavit is never filed with a court, and the 75-3-1203 summary administrative procedure closes an estate that was already opened. Section 78A-2-301(2) states there is no fee for a service or filing not listed in that section or otherwise provided by law, which is the statutory basis for those zero figures. Section 78A-2-301 carries an end date of January 1, 2027 and a successor version enacted by Chapter 378, 2026 General Session is already published; the $375.00, the $35.00 and the whole accounting ladder survive that change.
