Evan Reid is the founder of Settled Estate, a consumer probate and estate-settlement resource operated by Amenti Labs LLC. He started the project after navigating the probate system firsthand and finding that clear, sourced information was hard to come by, especially for families handling an estate for the first time.
Evan leads the research and the tools behind the site. That includes the 50-state probate cost study, which compiles court filing fees, small-estate thresholds, statutory attorney and executor fee rules, and creditor-claim periods for every state from primary sources such as state statutes and court fee schedules. The goal across the site is the same: take the rules that are usually written for lawyers and make them readable, sourced, and verifiable for the families who have to follow them.
Evan is not an attorney, and Settled Estate is not a law firm. The site does not provide legal advice. Its role is to organize sourced, plain-language probate information and point families to official sources and, where a situation calls for it, to licensed counsel in their state.
What Evan writes about
Probate costs and filing fees, how long estate settlement takes and why, executor duties and compensation, small-estate options, and the state-by-state differences that make general probate advice unreliable. Every figure is tied back to an official source so readers can check it themselves.
