Connecticut Probate Attorneys

Connecticut permits a fiduciary to handle a decedent's estate without an attorney. The Probate Court system's own user-guide library says its guides 'are meant to help the court user understand basic Probate Court procedures and what to expect when participating in a probate matter', with parties 'strongly encouraged' (never required) to seek professional legal assistance; the 17-page Administration of Decedents' Estates User Guide is the estate walk-through.

Connecticut's probate courts are built for lay participation: encouragement to seek counsel is advice addressed to people entitled to proceed without it. Contested matters and insolvent estates are where that advice starts being worth taking.

Connecticut has no statutory attorney-fee schedule for an ordinary estate; firms bill by the hour, a flat fee, or a percentage they set themselves. The $4,000 to $10,250 figure is a Settled Estate estimate built from a stated hours band and the state's average attorney hourly rate, not a quote; a contested estate or one with real property runs higher.
