Note: NEBRASKA'S PROBATE FILING FEE IS SET BY STATUTE FOR THE WHOLE STATE, SO NO COUNTY PUBLISHES ITS OWN SCHEDULE, AND THE STATUTE'S NUMBER IS NOT THE BILL. Neb. Rev. Stat. § 33-125 charges $22.00 for a probate commenced and closed informally and a twenty-bracket scale of $22.00 to $1,500.00 on the gross value of the estate for a formal one. Two other statutes load onto every county-court case and neither sits in chapter 33's probate section: § 24-703(3)(a) adds a sum equal to TEN PERCENT of the § 33-125 fee for the Nebraska Retirement Fund for Judges, and six per-case cost statutes add exactly $20.00 (§ 33-107.01 legal services $6.25, § 33-107.03 court automation $8.00, § 33-154 training $1.00, § 33-155 dispute resolution $0.75, § 33-156 indigent defense $3.00, § 47-633 uniform data analysis $1.00). So an informal probate collects $44.00, $45.00 testate, and a formal probate collects $44.00 to $1,670.00. Publishing $22.00 as 'the Nebraska probate filing fee' understates it by half. Separately, § 33-126.03 charges $22.00 for a petition to determine inheritance tax, waived where a formal § 33-125(1)(b) fee was already charged, and § 33-125(2) charges $10.00 (plus $1.00 retirement) where a petition is dismissed with no appointment or order. The statute's own decoy: § 33-125(1)(a) nests a remittance schedule ending 'beginning July 1, 2025, twelve dollars' inside the $22.00, which is the slice the clerk forwards and not a charge. One wrinkle, and it is not trivia because it sets the headline $44.00: § 24-703(3)(a) charges, in county courts, 'a sum ... equal to ten percent of each fee provided by sections 33-125, 33-126.02, 33-126.03, and 33-126.06, rounded to the nearest even dollar.' Read against the 07-01-2026 schedule on 2026-09-10, the schedule prints EXACT ten percent on nineteen of the twenty brackets, odd dollars included ($30.00 to $3.00, $50.00 to $5.00, $70.00 to $7.00), and departs from it on exactly one: the lowest bracket's $22.00 statutory fee carries $2.00 rather than $2.20. That same $2.00 is the retirement fee inside the $44.00 informal total, so the ROUNDED figure, not the exact percentage, is what a clerk collects. An arithmetic check that asserts ten percent on every bracket will fire on bracket (i) and be wrong to do so.

NO TOTAL COST IS STORED, ON PURPOSE. What a Nebraska legal notice costs depends on how many LINES it runs, and Neb. Rev. Stat. § 33-141(4) sets the legal rate at fifty cents per line for the first insertion and forty-three and thirty-four hundredths cents per line for each subsequent insertion, at eight-point type and a pica width of eleven, with an official conversion table for other type sizes. The notice runs three times, so the bill is the line count times those rates. Read the SUBSECTION and not the first figure in that section: it prints four dated tiers and the first, forty-one cents, expired in 1996. The additional notice to the Department of Health and Human Services required for a decedent who was fifty-five or older, or who lived in a medical institution, must be delivered in the manner the department publishes, and a notice that does not conform is void.
